Self-Catering Breaks on Holy Island

With its religious sounding name, Holy Island naturally piques curiosity and this lovely little village is indeed a fascinating place for a self-catering holiday. Home to a number of holiday cottages, Holy Island is firmly on the tourist map and is one of Northumberland’s best loved places.

Cottage Stays on Holy Island

With an impressive location right by the sea, Holy Island can be reached either by boat or by tidal causeway. Do check crossing times though as the tidal causeway is not safe to cross when the tide is in. Home to Lindisfarne Castle, this is one of Northumberland’s most iconic castles and the views from the top are simply superb.

What Does Holy Island Offer for Cottage Breaks?

Also in this village are the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, so it’s clear that this religious sounding place suits its name. Holy Island is probably best suited to those looking to relax and spend some time in as well as out on a self-catering holiday. Getting out and about is possible but not as easy as other locations in Northumberland as visitors need to be mindful of tidal crossing times and will need to plan ahead. Whether you’re planning to rent a romantic cottage or a family holiday house, Holy Island is a truly atmospheric place to stay.
