Self catering accommodation for the Easter Holidays
Hooray for Easter holidays!
For some fortunate people, each school holiday is another opportunity of an escape to the country. Easter is another such time. Walkers have a great attitude in that they simply adjust to the weather and make the most of what nature and the climate throw at them. Because of that attitude they do get to see promroses and early spring flowers, whereas the rest of us miss spring awakening.
The weather around Easter is still chilly in the northern hemisphere. It is however one of the best times to visit countries around the Mediterranean because their spring flowers will be blooming en-masse and the daily temperature will be pleasant and suitable for sightseeing. A good holiday island to visit that is well known for its flowers is Madeira which does not have great extremes of temperature all year round. Rent an apartment or villa in Madeira and enjoy bird of paradise flowers growing wild and walks in the levadas.
The population of Madeira is centred around the capital Funchal where there is plenty of holiday accommodation to rent and various places of interest to tourists. All countries around the Mediterrean are good for nature trips during spring. It is far too cold for swimming until summer arrives.
Spain and Portugal are long established winter escape countries for Brits. Renting apartments and villas in Spain or Portugal for the winter is inexpensive compared with peak summer rates. There will be blue skies and sunny days that match late spring and early summer in Britain. Malta is another popular winter escape and almost everyone speaks English. If you tire of the long grey days, book an apartment or villa in one of the Mediterranean countries and give yourself a window of sunshine around Easter.
Another aspect of Easter are religious customs. Easter is a religious festival in certain countries, such as Greece, that is more widely celebrated than Christmas. As with most festivals, there are traditions and festive food. In Greece that usually means a lamb on a spit as well as Easter eggs.
Even in Britain, we have our Easter traditions. There will still be egg rolling down hillsides for children and Easter egg hunts; all good family fun. These traditions have been taken up by open farms and visitor attractions and run to encourage people to visit.
Take a look at cottages, villas and apartments available for Easter and see if anything in particular attracts you. It is always good to get away after making the effort.
