This pretty village is around 4 miles southeast of Witney and 6 miles west of Oxford and boasts two village pubs and a local shop for all of your self-catering essentials. Stanton means "farmstead by the stones", probably named after the after the nearby prehistoric stone circle, ‘The Devil's Quoits’ which stands to the south of  the village, the site is believed to be between 4,000 – 5,000 years old and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The village is ideal for swimming, sailing and other watersports, with several lakes and a large reservoir within walking distance that also offer fishing and bird watching. The City of Oxford is a must visit offering; daily walking trips of Oxford and the colleges with experienced guides; museums, including the world renowned Ashmolean; the Botanical Gardens; Christ Church Meadow and Punting on the River Thames.
