Book a holiday getaway in south Shropshire

Self-catering cottage holidays are perfect for if you and your loved ones enjoy home comforts, but still want to get away and explore somewhere new. There are plenty of different types of cottage to suit what you need in a break such as this, from baby-friendly bungalows with private gardens, to pine lodges nestled in a secluded forest with access to a swimming pool. Whatever you’re looking for, choosing the location of your accommodation can be a difficult decision. However, if you enjoy charming market towns and are wanting to visit the county of Shropshire, then Tenbury Wells might be a good choice for you.

Tenbury Wells is a good base for a holiday in Shropshire

Tenbury Wells is actually located in Worcestershire on the banks of the River Teme which separates this county with Shropshire, and this ancient market town makes for a lovely base in which to explore the delights of Shropshire. The area itself is unspoilt, with rolling countryside set within the stunning Teme Valley. From here, you can go on daily walks among the picturesque scenery, or perhaps hire a bike instead.

For those who enjoy history and architecture, there is a 16th century bridge which crosses the river and is said to be the gateway into the town. Other notable points of interest include the unique Pump Rooms which were designed in the mid-19th century and were a source of mineral water for the town in the Victorian era. The parish church of St Mary is also worth a visit - it includes a Norman tower and was rebuilt in 1864.

Lots to see close to Tenbury Wells

If you decide to rent a holiday cottage in this lovely little town, then you will be well-placed to delve into the heart of Shropshire and discover the surrounding areas. The pretty town of Ludlow is about a twenty-minute drive from Tenbury Wells and is one of the most charming parts of the county. Ludlow is full of history amongst its narrow, quiet lanes, and is home to an 11th century castle.

Another place to visit when staying in self-catering accommodation in Tenbury Wells is the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here, you can discover the woodlands, valleys and farmland on country walks and picnics, or visit the market town of Church Stretton which can be found within the hills about 45 minutes from Tenbury Wells.

Self-catered accommodation suits families

If you and your family and friends prefer to stay in accommodation where you can cook your own meals and make the space feel homely and like your own, then renting a cottage will be perfect for you. Tenbury Wells is a wonderful choice if you like picturesque surroundings due to its setting on the River Teme, and there is plenty to do in and around the area for the days where you venture outside of your accommodation.
